Villaraza & Angangco is pleased to announce the promotion of Atty. Fritzzie Lyn Español of the Litigation & Dispute Resolution Department to Senior Partner.
Atty. Español specializes in complex commercial and criminal litigation, corporate rehabilitation and insolvency, commercial arbitration, tax litigation, intra-corporate disputes, banking, anti-money laundering, and estate proceedings. Atty. Español is also a part of V&A’s Arbitration Practice Group and is a Philippine Dispute Resolution Center, Inc. Trained Arbitrator.
Atty. Español has successfully represented a wide range of clients from various sectors such as financial services, manufacturing, petroleum, mass media and real estate development before the trial, tax and appellate courts, as well as various quasi-judicial agencies, prosecutorial offices and regulatory bodies.
Through the years, Atty. Español's extensive experience in litigation and dispute resolution has been marked by high-stakes cases where she represented a consortium of creditors in a rehabilitation proceeding which involves the largest default in Philippine corporate history; defended the officers of a top financial institution in an anti-money laundering case; represented a petroleum company against smuggling charges worth billions of pesos; litigated the largest tax protest case in the Philippines; represented a group engaged in financial services in a novel tax case before the Supreme Court; and led a team to simultaneously foreclose properties in various jurisdictions of a high-profile company with a multi-billion loan obligation.
Atty. Español obtained her Juris Doctor degree from the Ateneo de Manila University School of Law in 2007, where she graduated with honors.
