Villaraza & Angangco (“V&A Law”) is pleased to announce the promotion of Atty. Mandy Therese M. Anderson of the Corporate and Commercial Law Department to Partner, effective 01 July 2023.
Mandy specializes in national, local and international taxation, foreign investments, corporate and commercial law, corporate restructuring, financial technology, mergers and acquisition and media and telecommunications. Being a certified public accountant with nine years of experience in the field of taxation, she routinely provides various tax services for clients in banking and capital markets, real estate, government projects, telecommunications, services, manufacturing, retail industries, as well as for holding companies. She also handles estate settlement proceedings and provides estate planning advice to high net-worth clients.
Her notable works include the handling of the successful acquisition of a PhP6 Billion deal that allowed one of the largest conglomerates in the Philippines to acquire a 60% stake in a group of companies engaged in various services across the entire supply chain, including door-to-door express delivery, international and domestic freight forwarding, warehouse operations and management and waste management services. She also advised one of the biggest conglomerates in the Philippines in connection with its take-over of a major oil conglomerate’s stake in the consortium operating the Malampaya gas field—one of the biggest natural gas projects in the Philippines. Mandy was also part of the deal team that represented several of the country’s leading commercial banks in the contract negotiations with a potential white knight investor and the preparation of the transaction documents in the largest corporate default case in Philippine history.
Mandy was the Chief-Of-Staff of a former Bureau of Customs (“BOC”) Commissioner, where she assisted in the implementation of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (“CMTA”) which took effect at the time she was with the BOC. She was exposed to, and took part in the drafting of regulatory issuances, orders, and memoranda implementing the CMTA, as well as coordinating with the various offices of the BOC, other government agencies and stakeholders to ensure compliance with the said law.
Prior to studying the law, Mandy worked for the Tax Reporting and Operations Group of Sycip, Gorres, Velayo & Co. (“SGV”) for two years where she gained experience and expertise in providing tax advisory and tax compliance services for clients belonging to various industries. Mandy is a part-time lecturer at the Ateneo de Manila University where she teaches Legal Accounting. She was also a part-time lecturer of Taxation on Mergers and Acquisitions of the FEU-De La Salle MBA-JD Program. She has also served as a legal and policy consultant to an incumbent Senator of the Philippines.
Mandy obtained her Juris Doctor degree with honors from the Ateneo de Manila University in 2015, where she graduated with honors and ranked fifth in her class. She also placed 5th in the Philippine Bar in 2016. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of San Carlos with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy in 2009 and passed the Board Examinations for Certified Public Accountants in the same year.
